SALMAN KHAN
Major ups and major downs have marked Salman Khan's career. But right now Salman is poised on the brink of a major success called Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hai. The film directed by Deepak Sarin has Salman in solo lead opposite Twinkle Khanna. This will be a Salman's second hit as Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya released eight weeks before Jab Pyar Kisise Hota Hai was declared a hit, and the only hit of 1998.
Incredibly Salman Khan holds the record of having four successive hits which three have been successive top grossers: Maine Pyar Kiya Saajan, Hum Aapke Hai Koun and hard to believe but true, Karan Arjun. When Karan Arjun was released six months after HAHK and it became a big hit Salman Khan had re-arrived and this time he was staying. The ban by the press and the we-don't-want-any-Salman stand of producers and distributors were dropped overnight. But the after-effects of the bad days showed up with stray, indifferent films like Veergati. Superhits like Judwaa took time in coming, a film in which Salman had his first double role. Jeet where Salman acted with Sunny Deol was also a super hit. Not so his brother Sohail Khan directed film Auzaar.
In the next lot comes Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya and now Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hai. To sum up, Salman has had twelve big hits in ten years. You can't discount a man like this. Meanwhile international magazines have voted him one of the top ten handsome men in the world. So Salman right now is bathed in the sweet glow of success. He has ten films on the floors including Sooraj Barjatya's third film Hum Saath Saath Hai, in which Salman is cast opposite Sonali Bendre, Mohnish Behl is opposite Tabu and Saif Ali Khan is opposite Karisma Kapoor. Salman starts shooting for the film in July 1998 and the film is expected to release by Diwali 1999.
Salman's other not-to-be-missed films are : Sanjay Bansali's Hum Dil De Chuke Kai Sanam with Aishwarya Rai and Ajay Devgan. Bandhan with Jackie Shroff directed by Murali Manohar Rao. Janam Samjha Karo directed by Majrooh Sultanpuri's son Andaleep for producer Bubby Kent.
