Karishma International’s ‘Jaanam Samjha Karo’, is a predictable film that takes the beaten path and the viewer has to exert all his energy to sit through this marathon exercise passed off as a film. This is producer Bubby Kent’s second release in three weeks after ‘Kaala Samrajya’. He and hero Salman Khan, had earlier given a hit called ‘Kurbaan’. This time around one cannot say whether the public will accept the film or not, because knowing the unpredictable nature of the box-office, one never knows though it had taken an excellent initial.
‘Jaanam Samjha Karo’, is the story of Rahul, a playboy billionaire, who goes gloge-trotting and has a gala time with his grandfather’s wealth. With him is his middle aged secretary Tubby aka Tejeshwar Singh (Jaspal Bhatti). At one point of time Rahul meets Chandni (Urmila Matondkar) dancing in a night club and he now wants to ‘hunt’ her. His amorous advances are nipped in the bud by the girl and this provokes him all the more to go out of the way to get her. In the process he buys over the club where she dances (Any coincidence to ‘Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rahte Hain’ is regretted.) Certain avoidable circumstances later Chandani does falls in love with Rahul, only to realise  that he is using her as a repellent for his grandfather who wants to relieve him of his wealth due to his irresponsible nature. Chandni is heart broken and is ready to go back into the arms of one Daniel (Sadashiv Amrapurkar) who promises her a heavenly life in Goa. How the lovers unite in the end forms the  rest of the story.
‘Jaanam Samjha Karo’, meanders aimlessly through the film and one is given the impression that the story-screenplay was written by Rajkumar Santoshi when he was nursing a headache and he wanted to pass it on. The dialogues are devoid of any variety and are restricted to a limited vocabulary. The photography by WB Rao is not upto his earlier work and the blame squarely lies on the shoulders of debutant director Andaleb Sultanpuri (son of veteran lyricist Majrooh Sultanpuri) who handles the subject very amateurishly , as a result of which scenes with potential also go phut. The only saving grace of the film is the peppy music (Anu Malik) and youthful lyrics (Majrooh Sultanpuri). The first forty five minutes contain four songs in rapid succession, reminding you of a song-based television show. Salman Khan gives one of his worst performances in recent times, but yet manages to hold your attention because of lack of competition. The audience seems to lap up his antics with relish. Urmila Matondkar tends to overact, what with her expressions not matching her dialogues. With due respects to the immense
talents of Shammi Kapoor, one must confess that it takes a really effort to sit through scenes involving him as they just seem to go on and on. Jaspal Bhatti once again proves his mettle by delivering punch-lines with the right timing.. Shakti Kapoor as Harry, Monica Bedi  and Sadashiv Amrapurkar, go through the routine mechanically.‘Jaanam Samjha Karo’, is a film that gives a deja vu feeling as there have been too many films along the same line in recent times.

ONE LINE REVIEW: God save the box office if this film runs.
