´Gayab´ Fair Opening , ´Garv´ Excellent In Single Screens

This Friday :-

This Friday will see the release of ´Asambhav´ , ´Julie´ and Spiderman 2´(dubbed) . Of the three ´Spiderman 2´ is expected to take a flying start . The film is being released with a high number of prints and in many regional languages . ´Julie´ is expected to achieve a ´Girlfriend´ like success due to obvious reasons .

Rajiv Rai´s ´Asambhav´ is going to have a tough battle but due to price reduction in most territories it may find some success from distributors point of view .

Opening of ´Gayab´:-

Last Friday´s release ´Gayab´ had a reasonably weekend at some multiplexes (good in Mumbai) and the opening in some cities like Jaipur and Nagpur was superb but overall the opening can be termed as fair .

Verdict:-

The 6.5 crore movie from Ramu´s factory was sold for a very reasonable price to the distributors and it should be safe for some of them , given the good start at select cinemas .

´Garv-Pride & Honour´ :-

Cinevista´s ´Garv-Pride & Honour´ took a splendid opening across India specially in the single screens and though the multiplexes expectedly were not cent per cent even there the opening was above average .

The anti lobby waited for the ordinary action fare to to have a drastic fall from the second day and than from Monday but that did not happen . Yes the fall was there from Monday but it was not alarming at the single screens though it was quite pronounced in the multiplexes .

Salman Khan continues to be a hot favourite of the masses and at places the collections of ´Garv-Pride & Honour´ were compareable to that of the actor´s ´Tere Naam´ last year . Pertinent to note that ´Tere Naam´ had a double advantage - it had opened on 15th August a national holiday and superhit music but ´Garv-Pride & Honour´ had only Salman´s raw box-office power and he delivered yet again .

Totals from some territories/circuits(approximate) :-

Bombay (territory) - 2.5 crore ,

Delhi - U.P - 2.30 crore

Rajasthan - 65 lakhs

East Punjab - 85 lakhs

West Bengal - 55 lakhs

Verdict :-

´Garv´ is extraordinary in Nizam ,U.P. and Bihar , excellent in C.I. , Rajasthan , West Bengal and Punjab . Though the movie took a big dip in multiplexes as the week progressed , it has yielded excellent shares from single screen cinemas despite a fall , because of the flying star . Depending on its next 2 weeks It now remains to be seen whether it will finish as an average or touch above average , as it has been sold at very high prices .

´Deewar - Lets´s Bring Our Heroes Home´ :-

There were some hopes of the movie being at least an average but given its heavy price and falling collections even that looks difficult .

Bombay - 14,61,545 from 16 cinemas

Thane district - 1,65,605 from 3 cinemas(3 on F.H.)

Madras (7 shows) -44,910

Third week collection :56,50,353 from 68 cinemas (reported)

Three weeks total (calculated) : All India 13.70 - 13.75 cr

Verdict :-

Given its very expensive distribution prices , the film has little or no chances of recovering .

Lakshya :-

The movie shows improvement compared to the initial predictions of many about it being only a Bombay hit . The tax-free (TF) status in Maharastra , Delhi , U.P.and West Bengal has also boosted the collections specially in A centres of U.P. , while the movie continues its good run in Bombay .

Fourth week collections :-

Bombay (TF) - 32,25,065 from 20 cinemas total for 4 weeks 3,25,065

Thane district(TF) - 4,16,397 from 2 cinemas ( 6 on F.H.)

Pune (TF) - 9,63,977 from 5 cinemas

Lucknow(TF)- 5,02,690 from 2 cinemas

Allahabad(TF) - 1,07,360

Agra (TF) - 1,85,317

Mathura(TF) - 45,616

Calcutta (TF) - 7,12,372 from 2 cinemas

Indore- 90,172 from 2 cinemas

Nagpur(TF) - 58,038

Jabalpur - 22,878

Amravati(TF)- 55,188

Wardha(TF) -67,863

Hyderabad (gross) 6,42,916 from 2 cinemas

Madras - 2,62,011 from 2 cinemas

Fourth week collections: 1,12,87,701 from 71 cinemas

Four weeks total (calculated) All India: 22.85 cr - 22.95 cr

Verdict :-

´Lakshya´ has benefited a lot from tax-free (TF) status and is now an above average in Mumbai , average in Delhi-U.P. , West Bengal and maybe Nizam . The movie is all set to go past 25 crores from India . Though it may sound ironical but once again Rajshri´s are unlucky as most of their distributed territories are not tax-free and so the collections there have not shown any improvement .

The overall situation still shows that its the makers who have benefitted the most as they have distributed the movie in the two best territories .
