Undoubtedly the biggest hit of the year has been Aankhen starring Govinda, Chunky Pandey. In term of collections it is only next to Maine Pyar Kiya and Sholay. Pahlaj Nihalani Producer-distributor literally hit the jackpot with the blockbuster success of the film which also introduced two newcomers Ritu Shivapuri and Ragheswari.  

Khalnayak, Darr, Baazigar, Anari, Tiranga,Dallal, Damini, Hum Hai Rahi Pyar Ke, Aaina, Phool Aur Angaar and Roja are the other major hits of the year while Gardish,Aashik Awara, Lootere, Rang, Gumrah, Sir, Kundan, Aadmi, Muqabala, Pehchan and Waqt Hamara Hai has been declared moderate successes at the box office.

The major flops of the year includes Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja,King Uncle, Maya Mamsaab, Shatrang, Chandramukhi, Kshatriya, Bedardi, Dhanwaan, Bhagwan, Sahibaan and Santaan. 

Among the heroes Sanjay Dutt, Shahrukh Khan, Jackie Shroff, Aamir Khan and Sunny Deol are the hot property while Mithun has managed to salvage himself with three successful films Dallal, Phool Aur Angaar and Dallal. Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan ,who were hailed as the next superstars to oust the other stars, came a croppers with many collosal flops.
