-gures touted week after week in the Trade General Advertisements as " Breaking all records" etc., etc. 

 It is a year that will be remembered, among other memorable events, for big successes and big failures , on the credit side stand "Jaani Dushman" (biggest hit of the year) , " Suhag ", " Sargam ", " Noorie " ," Mr Natwarlal ", " Golmaal ", " Dada ", " Nauker ", " Khandaan " and  '" Suraksha ". On the debit side are " Kaala Patthar " , " The Great Gambler ", " Dil Ka Heera ", " Lahu Ke Do Rang ", " Duniya Meri Jeb Mein ", " Gautam Govinda", "Jurmana", " Junoon ", "Jootha Kahin Ka" And "Lok Parlok".

Some of other films like " Kartavya ", " Ahinsa "," Aatish", " Muqabala", "Amardeep and " Tarana" had done well but they are not universal hits. 

The biggest surprise of the year were undoubtedly Yash Chopra's " Noorie " and Jugal Kishore's " Dada " with not-so exciting starcast and yet both turned out to be top hits of 1979.

The year undoubtedly   belongs to Amitabh Bachchan who had lean patch in first half of 1979 with "Kaala Patthar"', " Jurmana ", " The Great Gambler" bombing big time at the box office and at last Amitabh bounced back big time with "Suhag" and "Mr Natwarlal" , both being the top five hits of the year. 

The 50 year old Sunil Dutt is still a big draw with "Jaani Dushman", undoubtedly the biggest hit of the year and "Ahinsa" and "Muqabala" being pretty good successful films of 1979.

 Tough guy SUNIL SHETTY is nowadays facing the toughest time of his life. He has been having all big banner films going for him, but somehow they are failing to make it big at the box-office.
