| Let's begin with the process of elimination. Fardeen is still lost in the jungle and nowhere around in the picture. Saif has just received a fresh lease of life with Kya Kehna. He was all but given up for good. Aamir, hmmm, has his own dedicated fan club that devotedly waits the year round for one Aamir Khan quality film with a quality performance. So he's out. That leaves Salman and Shah Rukh. And mind you, there is a big battle going on out there between their supporters. The enormous Salman fan brigade claims the real number one of Bollywood or the asli King Khan, is Salman Khan. They are ready to rattle off a huge list of Salman's superhits such as the debut film Maine Pyar Kiya, Saajan, Sanam Bewafa, Kurbaan, Patthar Ke Phool, Baghi, Karan Arjun, Kum Aapke Hain Kaun, Jeet,Judwaa, Biwi No 1, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya, Jab Pyar Kisise Hota Hai, Bandhan, Hum Saath Saath Hain and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai to even his recent film Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega! and they also claims that their idol has given most numbers of record breaking hits and biggest success of the year like Saajan, Hum Saath Saath Hain,Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Maine Pyar Kiya. |  | |
| Can Shah Rukh show even half the number of hits as Salman? Shah Rukh's fan club tries to drive home the point that their idol has worked in the maximum number of smashing hits in - right from his debut in Deewana to Baazigar, Darr, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge,Karan Arjun,a Kuch Hota Hai ,Yes Boss, Pardes and Dil Se which did well abroad. Admittedly, Shah Rukh got a lot of positive press (till the Hrithik Roshan-lookalike fiasco in the Pepsi ad happened) while Salman has been routinely blasted by the media for his wayward ways and tantrums. "A section of the film media, due to their dislike of Sallu's arrogant ways has spread the rumor about Shah Rukh Khan being the number one when in fact he is not," say Salman's supporters. "Salman unlike Shah Rukh, has given hits not only with big filmmakers, but also with small and nondescript banners like Saawan Kumar, Lawrence D'Souza, Deepak Bahri, Nitin Manmohan, Murlidhar Rao, etc and even Sanjay Leela bhansali hit it commercially big with Salman." Salman is the only male star in Bollywood so far to have achieved super-stardom without having worked in a single Yash Chopra film or the Ghai banner - although one hopes that he will soon get to do so, his fans point out. As for Shah Rukh, he has always been the chosen one for the top notch directors.And there is more. Salman has been voted as one of the ten sexiest men in the world by Vogue magazine. He has the hunkiest body in town, till Hrithik happened. But Shah Rukh has picked up the maximum number of Filmfare awards. In fact in one year, he picked up two Filmfare awards for best actor - the popular one for Darr and the critics award for Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa. And then, if Salman looks like he was born on a train, (he keeps moving incessantly), Shah Rukh hams away to glory. Both can also churn out memorable performances under the right kind of directors. | ||
